Trial Inside: Hello Morgan can you present yourself
Morgan: My name is Morgan Driessens, I'm 20 years old and I live in Brisbane, Australia. There is maybe 20-30 riders in Brisbane, but I practice with only 1 or 2 riders. Prodominantly, I train every week with Janine Jungfels, I think you may know her? She came 4th in the 2009 UCI World Championships and World Cup. We've practiced together since the beginning of our riding and in that time, she's become quite a powerful rider.
TI: Do you think that trials will progress in Australia?
Morgan: I think trials is getting bigger in Australia. There is more higher level riders that are improving quickly and also more younger children starting. It is also getting advertised better. I think in
Australia, there is about 120 riders maximum! Trials is very small here!
TI: Did the world championships in Canberra change the trials scene in Australia?
Morgan: It has made people more aware of trials and I think will get more interest in the sport. It has also made all of Australia's top riders improve, after watching the World's best riders.
TI: Janine, Joe and you have made a good result in Canberra. It's not difficult for us to ride on this level one day in the year? So crazy not, for you, to ride with Benito
Morgan: Yeah! The World Championship level, even in semi final was harder than our national level. Also, until Canberra, I had only watched riders like Benito and Gilles in videos, so it was amazing to watch and ride with the international riders.
TI: Speak us about your new video. Where did you ride?
Morgan: I did all the riding in my backyard and a forest 2km from my house. We made my backyard suitable for trials, to practice in. I also practice at the forest 3 days per week. I ride 95% natural and street occasionally. There is very good natural riding in Brisbane.
TI: Do you go to the next championship in Canada?
Morgan: No. I would like to, but I don't have enough money to go.
Frank: Oh, it's bad... Your federation can't help you?
Morgan: Sadly no. There is very little help from the Federation. We must pay for everything ourselves. It was even quite expensive for me to compete in Canberra.
Frank: ok, i hope you can come on uci competitions soon! and that the trial go up in Australia.
Morgan: That would be great, Thank you!
Thanks to Morgan Driessens
