- Quel sont tes objectifs?

Danny Butler: Je vais faire mon maximum à Canberra. J'y vais sans pression mais avec un mental positif et si tout va bien j'aimerai rentrer dans le top 10. Je serais vraiment heureux avec un tel résultat. Mais nous verrons...

DB: Cette année cela va être vraiment difficile de se rendre aux championnats du Monde. J'ai même eu recours à des sponsors extérieurs pour me rendre en Australie. Les gens avec qui je vais voyager n'imaginent pas que cela n'a pas été facile, surtout que la fédération Anglaise ne donne aucune aide aux trialistes, qui doivent financer eux-mêmes le voyage! J'ai seulement droit à 23 kilos pour mon vélo et tout ce dont j'ai besoin. Du coup j'emmène le minimum de choses. Heureusement que le matériel Atomz est vraiment léger, ce qui représente un réel bonus et me permet de prendre un peu plus de matériel de rechange. Je n'ai plus qu'à faire de mon mieux.

DB: Oui, Ben réalise une belle année. Il est meilleur que jamais en Coupe du Monde et me pousse à m'entraîner encore plus dur pour améliorer mon niveau. Surtout après cette dernière année qui a été terrible pour moi. Depuis que j'ai repris l'entraînement, mes résultats vont en s'améliorant. C'est pour cela qu'aujourd'hui je suis leader du championnat britannique. Il ne me reste plus qu'à être proche de lui sur les coupes du monde.

DB: Je pense que cette année est la plus dure de toutes, parce que tous les pilotes sont de plus en plus focalisés et concentrés que n'importe quelle année. Le niveau continue de progresser de manière régulière. Je trouve cela bien, mais en contrepartie les organisateurs doivent être vigilants afin de ne pas faire des zones trop démentes!

DB: Je pense que l'Angleterre est un pays qui a sa place en catégorie Elite, en augmentant sans cesse son niveau, car nous avons plusieurs pilotes compétitifs avec moi, Ben Slinger, Ben Savage et Andrei Burton. Chacun souhaite devenir le numéro 1 en UK, ce qui est bon pour nous, car cela nous pousse à repousser nos limites à chaque fois. Nous formons une belle équipe pour notre pays, avec un petit groupe qui voit arriver de nouveaux pilotes comme Joe Oakley et le jeune Sam Oliver. Je pense que cela peut donner une grande équipe pour les années futures.

DB: Oui j'ai fait plusieurs modifications sur mon nouveau vélo de compétition. J'ai maintenant un vélo d'entraînement et un de compétition. Cela m'aide et me simplifie la vie, car j'ai pu faire un vélo super léger. J'ai donc fait une nouvelle fourche carbone et fait quelques modifications au niveau de la pièce CNC arrière. Cela permet de voir si on peut encore alléger plus le vélo. Je suis très satisfait de mon vélo qui pèse maintenant environ 8,6 kgs! Ce qui est super! !

DB: C'est vrai, mes fourches sont très spéciales sur mon nouvel équipement pour la compétition. En fait, j'ai les seules fourches spéciales Trial tout en carbone au monde. Je n'ai jamais changé de style de fourche, car je n'ai jamais eu de souci avec. Elles ont été faites à l'origine par mon père et par Michel Coustellier. Pour moi ce sont les meilleures fourches au monde. Tant qu'elles seront en état de fonctionner je continuerai avec.

DB: J'ai un calendrier très chargé avec les compétitions et les shows que je réalise avec Ben Slinger. Mais nous devons travailler dur pour nous faire connaître et payer tous nos voyages. J'espère vraiment qu'un jour le Trial sera un vrai sport professionnel, ce qui nous permettra de mieux gérer notre carrière. Je fais beaucoup de promotion pour moi et le sport avec tous les shows, tout en essayant de mettre en valeur au maximum Atomz. Je suis aussi dans les magazines, mais je fais aussi des shows sur les épreuves de moto trial et de motocross avec mon autre partenaire principal FOX. J'aime mon style de vie et je ne regretterai jamais rien.

DB: A cause de la situation financière, je dois encore me battre pour aller aux championnats du Monde cette année. Je vais voyager tout seul entre l'Angleterre et Australie. Je pense que je vais bien me reposer pendant le vol. J''ai aussi remplit au maximum mon Ipod. Ce sera un très long voyage avec 2 changements d'avion. J'en profite pour remercier Atomz pour son soutien cette année, et  j'espère continuer l'an prochain car c'est vraiment un bon groupe avec le meilleur vélo du moment. DB: I hope to do the best I can out in Canberra I don’t go with any expectations whatsoever I am just going with a positive mental attitude and hopefully it will go great I would love to make a top ten position I would be very happy with that. But we will see …..

DB: This year it is going to be really difficult to get out to world championships and I have even had to resort to raising money from outside sponsors for me to get out there and then the people I am flying with don’t seem to be making it any easier especially since British Cycling give the UK trials riders any funding so we have to fund all the travel ourselves. I only have 23 kilos to put my bike, spares, tools, clothing and anything I wanna take in that baggage so I will be taking a very minimal amount but with the Atomz equipment being so light it is an even bigger bonus seeing as I cant take many spares at all so I have got to do my best.

DB: Yes Ben has had a great year so far he has been riding great at the world cups and it has made me train really hard to get my level back after having a terrible year last year and since my training has started to improve me my results have only got stronger and because of this I am now leading the UCI British championships so we have been very competitive I have just got to get it together on the world cup scene.

DB: I think that this year above any other has been the hardest of all because all of the riders have been more focused and dedicated than any other year. The level just goes up and up and up all the time. I think it is great but at the same time the organisers have got to be careful not to go too crazy with the zones.

DB: I think that the UK as a country in the elite class keep getting better and better as we have a few very competitive riders in myself, Ben Slinger, Ben Savage and Andre Burton who all want to be the strongest rider in the UK so it is great because we are always trying to push our limits which as a team from a country we are a strong group of riders as a country and then with the newest addition in the next couple of years from Joe Oakley and then soon young Sam Oliver ithink that we can provide good strong team for the years to come.

DB: Yes I have made some modifications to my new competition bike as I now have two bikes one for training and one for competition and this has really helped simply because you can make a superlight bike for competitions. So I have made new carbon forks on the comp bike and made a CNC modification to the rear end for testing to see if we could make the bike even lighter which seems to work great so far and we are really happy with the bike which is now around the 8.6kg weight so its awesome!!

DB: Yes my forks are very, very special especially my new competition set and yes they are the only carbon trials specific forks in the world and they have lasted the test of time with flying colours and I never changed them simply because no point fixing something that isn’t broken. They were originally made by my father and Michelle Coustellier the are till the best forks in the world in my opinion an as long as they keep working I wont change them.

DB: Well I do have a very busy schedule with all of the competition season and the amount of shows that myself and Ben Slinger have to do but we have to work hard to afford to keep doing all of the travelling that we do I really hope one day trials is seen as a much more of a professional sport and then maybe we can make it more of a career. i do a lot of promotion for myself and the sport with all of the shows and I try to promote the brand of Atomz the best that I can also in the magazines and do shows in  mototrials and motocross scenes and shows also for my other huge sponsor Fox. I love the lifestyle I lead and I will never regret it …

DB: Well because of the financial situation I have had to battle against to go away to the World championships this year I am only on one short flight down the UK to catch my plane to Australia with Ben so I leave the UK and Travel to Australia all alone so I think I will be doing a lot of eating and sleeping to be honest  and I have crammed my Ipod full of music for the travel it will be a very long flight and I have two changing connecting flights on the way it will take forever. But I do want to take this moment to thank Atomz for all of their help this year they have been great and I hope that I can continue with them for the coming year they are really great guys there and are the hottest bike at the moment.

- When do you go to Australia?

DB: I leave for Australia this weekend and I am really excited I leave on Sunday but I have a really long flight but I hope that everything will pay off and it will be a great trip for me and for Atomz.
